Yoga is a great way to improve both physical and mental health. It consists of calming music, meditation, and breath work referred to as pranayama. With the intention of improving health, it is a gentle exercise and relaxation technique using postures known as asanas. Yoga has become very popular and has many forms. Over 5000 years old and originates from Northern India. According to mythology, Lord Shiva was the first one to impart the knowledge of yoga.
How many types of yoga are there?
There are eight branches. They are
- Pratyahara – Withdrawal of the senses
- Asana – Yoga postures
- Pranayama – Breath control
- Dharana – Concentration
- Yama – Abstinences
- Niyama – Observances
- samadhi – Absorption
- Dhyana – Meditation
